| Historical Notes: Barnstable's 43-24 victory over Attleboro on Sunday, Nov. 15 was the first time since 1997 that the Red Raiders defeated their rivals from the West; The Red Raiders' victory over Attleboro, combined with its win over B-R a week earlier, and B-R's victory on Nov. 15 over Taunton, placed Barnstable, B-R and Taunton in a three-way tie for the Old Colony League Championship title - a "Tri-Championship." During the ensuing week, the three teams' representatives were forced to flip a coin in order to determine which team would be eligible to go to the playoffs. Barnstable lost the coin toss and B-R won, sending the Trojans to the playoffs. Barnstable's 20-14 upset over B-R on Friday, Nov. 6 was the first time the Red Raiders beat the Trojans since 2002, the last year BHS captured the Old Colony League title. The Barnstable Middle School football team, in existence since 1929, was eliminated due to school budget cuts and restructuring. The Barnstable Middle School football team finished its 80th season in 2008 by going undefeated at 7-0. As of 2009, www.redraiderpride.com will no longer list junior varsity or freshman schedules or results. |
